Mark your calendars for February 12 and don't forget we do this every other Thursday until April 23. Next up is Lewie Johnson, author of A Boy's Memories: Growing Up on the North Branch of the Au Sable River. Some of you probably know Lewie as he still lives on the 80 acres his father gave him north of Hartwick Pines.
Lewie grew up on the North Branch in Lovells Township on a road named after his father, Harold's Trail. Ed Kellogg helped build that road when it was put in off of S. McMasters Bridge Rd to the first cabin built in that area, a cabin also built by Ed Kellogg for R.P Johnson (no relation to Lewie's family).
As you can imagine, Lewie grew up like most boys in the area at the time, with a canoe paddle in one hand and a fly rod in the other. Hunting and trapping weren't a hobby, it was going to the grocery store. Lewie has lots of stories to share so come join us on February 12 at 6:00 PM in Lovells Township Hall. Come reminisce and spend an evening living with our local history.
We would like to thank David Howie from Saab, Inc. for opening our Hot Stove season last night. We had a great turnout and David gave us all the lowdown on the new Saab plant going up in Grayling. Thank you David!
Hot Stove is free to attend, we provide coffee and encourage guests to bring their own refreshments to enjoy or snacks to share with others. Hot Stove will be livecast via our YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/@LovellsHistory. For more information visit our Website or email info@lovellshistory.org
